Forest L. Reinhardt

Forest L. Reinhardt is the John D. Black Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School. A member of the Business, Government, and the International Economy Unit, he serves as faculty co-chair of the HBS Artificial Intelligence Initiative, a school-wide, multi-disciplinary effort that integrates research, course development, and teaching on AI and its implications for leaders, firms, and society. He also chairs HBS’s Agribusiness Seminar, an executive education program held each January on the HBS campus.
Professor Reinhardt studies the relationships between market and nonmarket business strategy, the links between government activities and those of firms, and the economics of externalities and public goods. He is the author of Down to Earth: Applying Business Principles to Environmental Management, published by Harvard Business School Press. This book—as well as many of his articles, papers, and case studies—analyzes problems of environmental and natural resource management.
Professor Reinhardt has taught HBS’s required MBA courses on Strategy and on Business, Government, and the International Economy, and he has introduced several elective courses at HBS and Harvard Business School Online. In addition to having served in numerous administrative roles at HBS and across Harvard University, he is a member of the advisory board of R.D. Offutt Company, an agribusiness firm based in Fargo, North Dakota.
Professor Reinhardt received his Ph.D. in Business Economics from Harvard University in 1990. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar, and an A.B., cum laude, from Harvard College. Born and raised in Missoula, Montana, he lives in Belmont, Massachusetts.
